Why Clean Beauty? Why for Black Women?
Let’s revisit why we are here.
It all started with these statistics:
Black women make up 7% of the population, but 22% of beauty spending
Cosmetics & hair products marketed to Black women were found to have more toxic ingredients
75% of personal care products marketed to Black women contain harmful ingredients
Black women have higher levels of beauty related chemicals in their bodies
Black children under the age of 12 have 112% more phthalates metabolites in their urine
That is a lot and I understand it can feel heavy, but I want you to go back up to that first bullet point.
We hold the power to demand a shift. To demand safer.
And that is why Clean Beauty for Black Girls was created.
To educate you and the Black community about the harmful ingredients in many of our personal care products. Once you know better, you can do better.
A great start is the Non-Toxic Beauty Project. You can learn about what ingredients to specifically watch for.
And you can shop Black owned beauty brands with the confidence of knowing you’re choosing safer for you, for your health, and to move an industry closer to safer for all of us.
This is a great time for us to continue to push.
I say that because the conversation is happening and you don’t have to look far to run into the recent study they released about hair straightening and uterine cancer.
Are you ready to step up & demand accessible and safer products for Black women?
If you want to learn more, or if you know a group of young women with loud voices you’d like to have learn more, please reach out to us about scheduling a sister circle. We introduce the what, the where, and the how do we move forward and we do it both virtually and in-person.
