How to Grow Back Your Edges. Safely!

As Black women it seems we are always talking about our edges.

Whether they are getting snatched by Beyonce when she graces us with any of her genius or the artistry in which people wear them or when we are talking about their disappearance and need for regrowth.

Edges and Black women are a thing.

So it comes as no surprise how stressed we get when they do (what seems to be inevitably) thin.

As someone who has dealt with this myself, trust me when I say I understand the knee-jerk reaction to do anything and everything to get them back flourishing.

But.

We still need to consider our health and the ingredients that go into the products marketed to us. Especially those marketed to an insecurity specific to us.

We cannot forget 75% of the products specifically marketed to Black women are potentially hazardous & a large portion of those products fall under the hair category.

Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty of why our edges thin before we talk about what we can do.

So what happens?

A large part of Black women’s hair loss is due to tension that comes from the hair styles we wear. The truth is curly hair is more fragile. And when our hair follicles get inflamed due to being pulled tight for so long, they lose their strength and break or stop producing.

Now, I’m not going to tell you to give up protective hairstyles or anything like that. I understand their importance and I also know we revel in giving ourselves a change-up and versatility in how we present ourselves to the world.

I am going to tell you absolutely at no time in your life should you be using Vicks Vapor Rub or Monistat on your edges (or at all really). I don’t know who started that bs, but it ends here.

I am also going to tell you two major factors to hair health and diet and mental health.

So for your healthy diet, focus on keeping these things in rotation:

  • Eggs

  • Berries

  • Spinach

  • Salmon

  • Avocado

Address your stress levels with

  • Therapy

  • Daily movement

  • Meditation

  • Laughter

Here’s what I want you to watch for - especially in the more popular products:

  1. Methylparabens (these are linked to hormone disruption, diminished fertility and low thyroid levels)

  2. Retinyl Palmitate (has been known to spur skin tumors)

  3. Fragrance (which is known as a hormone disruptor and skin sensitizer)

You’re also going to want a product that works - and is safe. Edge Naturale has created exactly that. This creamy, whipped feeling cream will enhance follicle growth & promote your overall hair growth.

I’ve been using it on my edges and a bald spot I have from alopecia caused by stress. People have also said it worked on their thinning eyebrows.

Edge Naturale uses peppermint oil & coconut milk to create a product that is both cooling and soothing when you put it on your scalp.

At the end of the day, I want to see you safe, flourishing and confident with your full head of hair.
