#ListenUpMBC - Let’s fight metastatic breast cancer together

Our mission here at Clean Beauty for Black Girls is to educate, empower and elevate Black women as we make healthier choices in our lives. 

So when the Tiger Lily Foundation reached out to us to participate in the amplification of #ListenUPMBC, the match was evident. 

The Tiger Lily Foundation is on a mission to educate, empower, support and advocate for young women ages 15-45 years old, before, during and after breast cancer. 

Their #ListenUpMBC Confab is focused on mobilizing young women while facilitating a conversation and building a global platform that puts us in the driver’s seat of how we approach this disease.


What is metastatic breast cancer? If you are asking this question, you’re not alone. To be completely transparent, I did not know exactly either.  

Metastatic breast cancer is advanced breast cancer, or otherwise known as Stage 4. At this stage of breast cancer, it has begun to spread and form tumors in other parts of the body. Breast cancer can spread to you bones, lungs, etc.

Did you know that 30% of Black women newly diagnosed with breast cancer are younger than 50. (compared with 20% of white women)

Also, the rate of death for Black women from breast cancer is 40% higher than what it is for Black women.

When it comes to our health, we are so often left out of the conversations, left out of the trials. We have to create our own table and bring our own chairs. 

#ListenUPMBC has three phases:

  1. Listen - identify needs, priorities, barriers, partners and methods

  2. Create - outreach campaign for metastasis breast cancer disparities, advocacy & education

  3. Mobilize - aimed at lowering the breast cancer mortality rate for Black women

I encourage you all to get involved in a capacity that suits you.

You can be a MB Angel/Advocate, in which you will:

  • Commit to advocacy to learn, share & grow

  • Attend trainings & conferences

  • Amplify the conversation on social media

  • Host educational & outreach events in your community

  • Participate in monthly calls

Education is empowerment. This year #ListenUPMBC is focused on Uniting & Conquering. Progress is accelerated when we work together.
