Tips For Clean Living

We don’t have to be intimidated by clean living. Instead of viewing it as a buzzword or a scare tactic, I challenge each of you to look at it as you would your eating habits or your exercise habits.

I don’t believe in perfect. What I believe in is educating ourselves and slowly making better decisions.

Just one at a time is good enough.

I want to talk about toxic load for a minute.

“Toxic load refers to the accumulation of toxins and chemicals in our bodies that we ingest from a variety of sources, including the environment, the food we eat, the water we drink, and the personal care and household products we use.”

These chemicals can be absorbed into our bloodstream, inhaled into our lungs, and absorbed into our digestive tract.

Over exposure to harmful pollutants that we are exposed to on a daily basis can lead to cancer, autism, neurocognitive disorders, mental health issues, and autoimmune diseases like Crohn’s, Colitis, Arthritis, Psoriasis and Lupus.

I know this can feel overwhelming, but we’re in this together. Here is a list of simple ways to start on your clean(er) living journey.

Choose clean beauty brands. You can use apps like the EWG Healthy Living App & Think Dirty to check how products measure up.

Choose safer cookware. Like stainless steel & cast iron. The traditional non-stick pans use teflon which is a known toxic chemical.

Shop flame retardant free. Check the tags of your couches & armchairs. Flame retardants are both neurotoxins and hormone disruptors.

Choose frozen, fresh or dried foods. Canned foods have been known to be lined with BPA. BPA can be linked to hormone disruptors and breast cancer.

Choose safer nail polish. Like Mischo Beauty - who we featured before on the blog! Most nail polish used phthalates and formaldehyde.

Skip the receipt. That little paper is coated in BPA. Have a digital one sent to you or just take a picture.

Buy air filtering plants. Because they are superheroes and can help purify the air.

Buy a non-toxic mattress.

Skip perfume & cologne. Fragrance is categorized as a “trade secret”, so out of the 3,000 chemicals that can make up fragrance your guess is as good as mine.

We live in a world where cancer, obesity, infertility, and young kids with behavior issues is rampant. We have to make ourselves and our health a priority.
